Black hole quencher-1 (BHQ-1) is classified as a dark quench (a non-fluorescent chromophore) and is widely used as the 3' -quench mover in various fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET)DNA detection probes. Such probes are primarily used for nucleic acid assays, but have also found a place in nucleic acid structure studies, including TaqMan probes, scorpion primers, and molecular beacons.
